Is it important to know identity of Shakespeare?

I'm not quite understanding you here. We know the identity of authors, such as Shakespeare, to give them credit for their work. If we didn't know who wrote it, I guess it wouldn't make much of a difference, but the author wouldn't be getting the credit they deserve. Is this what you wanted to know?
